Kiss-A-Pig Gala
Why Kiss A Pig?
Since 1921, insulin has played a major role in the treatment of diabetes for millions of people who suffer from this disease. Initially, insulin was derived from the pancreas of a pig. Although insulin can now be derived from other sources, we continue to recognize the historical significance of the pig. We "kiss a pig" as a thank you for helping us to save lives and to have fun raising money for the American Diabetes Association.
About Our Event...
The Kiss-A-Pig fundraiser is an exclusive event of the American Diabetes Association. It is a humorous, zany and outrageous contest between local celebrities, community leaders, and business people. The purpose of the contest is to raise "votes/dollars" for candidates' campaigns. Each vote is equal to one dollar. The candidate with the most "votes/dollars" wins the privilege of kissing a live pig. The Kiss-A-Pig Gala will benefit diabetes research, education, support and programs such as Camp Granada, our summer camp for children with diabetes in Monticello, IL.
