People in the Delaware area are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know. It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes.
That is why the American Diabetes Association's Wilmington, DE office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease.
We are dedicated in our mission to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club, Newark, DE
Since 1999, The American Diabetes Association has partnered with the National Father's Day Council to host the Father of the Year Awards dinner. Each year we recognize numerous men from across the nation for the outstanding strength, commitment and love they exhibit as fathers. These men have not only attained success in their chosen field or endeavor, but carved out time to teach and mature their children while also becoming good citizens and proud members of the community. Diabetes affects nearly 26 million children and adults nationwide. The more than $25 million that has been raised to date from Father of the Year Events will help the American Diabetes Association fund essential advocacy, education and research initiatives.
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes
September 20, 2014
Bellevue State Park, Wilmington, DE
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is the signature fundraising walk benefiting the mission of the American Diabetes Association. Originally known as "Walktoberfest," and piloted in 1991, it was renamed America's Walk for Diabetes in 1998. The event has gone through a series of name changes since 2007 including Step Out to Fight Diabetes and Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. In 2010, the event name was changed to Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in order to align with the Association's Stop Diabetes movement. Step Out has grown from 11 sites during its first year to more than 120 sites across the country. Today, the walk raises more than $20 million and helps fund critical diabetes research, information and advocacy efforts.
