Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders
Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) are at increased risk for diabetes at different BMI's when compared to Caucasian Americans.
According to Joslin's Asian American Diabetes Initiative, Asian Americans are considered overweight and at increased risk for diabetes at a BMI of 24. Some data show a BMI over 23 is unhealthy for Asian Americans whilePacific Islanders are considered overweight and at risk for diabetes at a BMI of 27.
