About A Day in the Life of Diabetes
During American Diabetes Month® this November, the American Diabetes Association launched a socially focused initiative, “A Day in the Life of Diabetes,” to demonstrate the increasing impact diabetes has on our families and communities nationwide.
Using imagery, social engagement and a larger-than-life stage, light will be shed on the issue of diabetes and those who live with it each and every day. Successfully managing diabetes can be a herculean task, making what might seem like an otherwise ordinary life rather extraordinary.
On Oct. 1, 2012, the Association kicked off the campaign by asking the American public to become part of the movement to Stop Diabetes® by sharing a personal image, via Facebook, representing what A Day in the Life of Diabetes means to them. The images will then make up a large mosaic that embodies the message, A Day in the Life of Diabetes.
The Association knows this disease impacts everyone in a different way. This is a way for the public to truly show what A Day in the Life of Diabetes means to them through photos—whether it is of themselves or loved ones, objects or places.
As part of this campaign, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Jay Dickman, volunteered his time and talent to photograph three individuals that are living with diabetes to share their up close and personal daily lives as part of "A Day in the Life of Diabetes."
