Research shows that sitting for long periods of time increases the risk of health complications. The American Diabetes Association recommends breaking up sitting time with three or more minutes of light physical activity—such as walking, leg extensions or overhead arm stretches—every 30 minutes.
Held the first Wednesday of May each year, National Get Fit Don't Sit Day™ is an opportunity for the Association to increase awareness of the dangers of excessive sitting and the importance of getting up and moving throughout the day—including at work.
Each year, thousands of businesses, organizations and industry leaders download the Association's e-toolkit to participate in National Get Fit Don’t Sit Day, and take steps to support the health of their employees and members through organized walks, movement break stations, yoga classes and more. We hope you'll participate in the next National Get Fit Don't Sit Day on May 3, 2017.
To get started, download the free, easy-to-use e-toolkit, which provides a wealth of scalable ideas, tips and activities to inspire you and your colleagues to get moving for better health.
