Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders

Are you at risk?

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) are at increased risk for type 2 diabetes compared to non-Hispanic white Americans.

While being overweight or obese increases diabetes risk for everyone, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders do not have to be overweight to be at risk for diabetes and have an even greater risk for diabetes with increasing weight compared with other racial and ethnic groups.

True or False?

  • I am of Asian descent
  • I am of Hawaiian descent
  • I am of Pacific Islander descent
  • I have family members with diabetes
  • I am over 45 years old
  • I am overweight/obese
  • I do not exercise regularly

If you can answer "true" to one of these boxes, you may be at risk for type 2 diabetes. Ask your doctor if you should be screened for type 2 diabetes.
