Driving Advocacy
Millions of Americans with diabetes drive safely every day and the American Diabetes Association believes that any person with diabetes should be eligible for any driver’s license for which he or she is individually qualified. We are working to ensure that people with diabetes are subject to fair and medically-supported rules regarding driver licensing.
Recent advocacy efforts include the Association's first position statment on diabetes and driving. We also provided input to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on the development of driver fitness guidelines.
