About Camp Carefree

Camp Carefree is a vibrant residential camp for children with diabetes. Emphasis is given to creating a warm atmosphere of caring and cooperation to provide a fun filled, healthy, and educational experience for our campers that will help them to develop and maintain active, healthy lifestyles. The two-week camp is designed for 120 campers, and six to eight counselors-in-training (CITs). There is a ratio of one staff member for every five campers.

Camp Carefree was begun in 1976 by volunteer medical personnel interested in children with diabetes. Their spirit of skilled dedication continues to inspire all those connected with the Camp today.

Camp Carefree is located at Lions Camp Pride on the shores of Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, New Hampshire. The facilities include spacious camper cabins, a health care center, a large dining hall, separate shower houses, complete waterfront system, playing areas and a low element ropes course.
