Diabetes can be pretty intimidating. But the good news is, you don't have to deal with it all on your own. You'll be surrounded by people who are there to help you.

Your D-team is your diabetes care team. It is made up of anyone who's helping you manage your diabetes and the team is led by you! While you are the D-team leader (or you and a parent could also be co-captains!), your D-team could include:

  • Parents or guardian
  • Endocrinologist or doctor
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
  • Brother or sister
  • Friends
  • Nutritionist (or dietitian)
  • Exercise specialist
  • Eye doctor
  • Skin doctor
  • Foot doctor
  • School nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Anyone you can share your feelings with

There may be times when you get tired of dealing with diabetes. It's especially important during those times to call on your D-team for support. By working together to keep your blood glucose under control, you can greatly decrease the chance of developing diabetes complications including neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy and heart disease.

Always remember, your D-team members care about you and they're there to help you. We refer to your D-team a lot on this Web site because they're the best place to go when you have questions or need support.

There may be times when feel nagged – but try to remember, they're just want to help you stay healthy and feel great!
