How many carbs are in 1 date and is it a good snack?
Dates are a type of fruit, so they contain carbohydrates and have a naturally sweet flavor. You don’t need to be afraid of all foods that taste sweet, but you do need to be aware of which foods have carbohydrates in them and how much of them you eat.
A serving of 3 whole pitted dates has about 15 grams of carbohydrates, 60 calories, and 2 grams of fiber (so one date has about 5 grams of carbohydrates, 20 calories, and less than one gram of fiber). Dates do not have any fat. You may also find chopped dates sold in the store. Check labels on these items for portion size, and calorie and carb grams.
Dates can be a good snack as long as you pay attention to portion size. Make sure they fit into your meal plan. Try eating them with some nuts or low-fat cheese if you want. There are many snack options for people with diabetes.
The truth is - you can include most foods in your meal plan as long as you pay attention to your carbohydrate intake and portion size. You can still eat foods that have sugar and taste sweet. Fruit is an important part of a healthy diet. Although it is has natural sugars, it has no fat and provides many important vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
