Blood Bank Honored for Diabetes Screening Program

The American Diabetes Association has recognized the Blood Bank of Delmarva, Del., for being the first U.S. blood bank to offer diabetes screening to every donor.

Since launching about two years ago, the diabetes program has screened more than 102,000 blood donations.  The blood bank's screening program has identified elevated glucose levels in 5,044 donations, and 62 individuals had levels considered dangerous, over 400.
