Since its inception in 1952, the American Diabetes Association Research Program has invested more than $600 million in diabetes research, supporting nearly 4000 projects. In 2011 alone, the Association invested nearly $34.6 million in diabetes research, and our program included 400 ongoing research projects across the country.

The American Diabetes Association supports research across the broad spectrum of diabetes topic areas, including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes complications, obesity, gestational diabetes, and prevention.

Investigation of diabetes topic areas such as immunology, obesity and complications advance our understanding of the disease, leads us to new treatments, and moves us ever closer to a cure.
