Joint Statement from ACC, ADA and AHA Revises Recommendations for Glycemic Targets for Some Patients
Some people with diabetes may require less stringent glycemic control than previously recommended, but most should stick with the target goal of less than 7 percent long advised for reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications, according to a position statement issued jointly today by the American College of Cardiology, American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association and published online in the journals of each organization, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Diabetes Care and Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.

American Diabetes Association Announces Retirement of Chief Scientific & Medical Officer, Dr. Richard Kahn
The American Diabetes Association announced today that Richard A. Kahn, PhD, its Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, will be retiring in June 2009. Kahn has been with the American Diabetes Association since 1985 and has provided senior staff oversight for the Association’s research grant program, two certification programs, clinical guidelines, professional education programs, and general information resources.

According to a new survey by the American Diabetes Association, more people reported fear of being in a plane crash, hit by lightning, attacked by a shark, or bitten by a snake, than a fear of developing diabetes.
