Driving and Diabetes: One Size Does Not Fit All
Determining whether someone’s diabetes poses a driving risk should be done on an individual basis and tied to concrete evidence of risk, rather than on a diagnosis of diabetes alone, according to a new position statement by the American Diabetes Association, being published in a special supplement to the January issue of Diabetes Care.

Researching the Brain’s Role in Diabetes/Understanding The Impact of Hypoglycemia
The American Diabetes Association today announced a request for applications to research the relationship between the brain and diabetes as well as upcoming efforts to better understand the consequences of hypoglycemia in people with diabetes. The awards represent a $2 million commitment from Novo Nordisk through its Changing Diabetes Initiative to support new studies in diabetes.

Recommendations for the Transition of “Emerging Adults” With Diabetes From Pediatric to Adult Diabetes Care Systems: New Position Statement Released

Tighter Glycemic Control Linked to Lower Prevalence of Retinopathy in Adolescents with Type 1
A trend to more intensively manage blood glucose levels in adolescents with type 1 diabetes over the past two decades has been linked to a corresponding decrease in retinopathy for this age group, according to a study being published in the November issue of Diabetes Care.
