Michael A. Weiss


The Charles H. Best Medal for Service is awarded to the chair of the board of the American Diabetes Association upon leaving office. Named for Dr. Best, the co-discoverer of insulin, this award recognizes meritorious service on behalf of the Association and Americans with diabetes.

An active participant in many civic and community organizations, Michael A. Weiss is currently chair of the national Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association.  He has served on ADA's Western Pennsylvania Affiliate, Pennsylvania Affiliate and national Boards of Directors, as well as on numerous Association committees at the local, state and national levels, with national positions including Chair, Nationwide Budgeting Task Force and Chair, Audit Committee.

He is also a member of the Board of Directors of DKW Law Group, PC, a  firm with offices in Cleveland, Detroit, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.  His legal career has included representation of general business clients, with a focus on the tax aspects of business financing, acquisitions and mergers, as well as estate and business succession planning.

Mr. Weiss earned a Bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Washington & Jefferson College.  He graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Law, and served as an editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif, a legal honor society.

Mr. Weiss is a native of the Pittsburgh area and lives in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania with his wife, Gerri.  They have two children, Melissa and Douglas.
