Officer and board of directors positions
The American Diabetes Association seeks volunteers who hold the passion and skills to offer strategic counsel that will help our organization deliver on our mission to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes, and who reflect the professional, geographic and ethnic diversity of the Association's constituents.
We are seeking leaders who want to step up their participation in the fight against diabetes to help us change the future of this devastating disease.
Before beginning the application process, we encourage individuals to review the relevant position descriptions (which outline the responsibilities and qualifications desirable in an applicant for each position), Officer and Board Member Letter of Agreement, Conflict of Interest Policy and other reference resources that are provided below.
Specific requirements for the elect officer positions
Since all Officers must have served, or be serving, on the National Board of Directors, the pool for Officers is currently defined. This list of individuals is available below.
Member, National Board of Directors
For the 2020 Class of the National Board of Directors, we seek a diverse set of applicants with demonstrated leadership in their chosen profession. We are seeking diverse leaders with the passion, vision, skills, and expertise to offer strategic guidance that will help propel our organization to great heights. Volunteers who assume a national service position become a vital communications link between the Association's national structure and the community leadership in their local areas.
The National Board of Directors will meet three to four times per year with an orientation early in the year. Regular attendance and participation are expected at each of these meetings. Each Board member is also assigned to serve on a national committee.
Board Member Application
We request your completed application submission by Sunday, June 30, 2019, 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Submissions should include, as separate attachments, the completed application, a headshot (follow the photo guidelines) and a completed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form. Please submit all materials via email to ADAApplications@diabetes.org.

The Board Development Committee presents a recommended slate of candidates for these positions to the voting membership of the American Diabetes Association, which includes the National Board of Directors, and delegates from the Community Leadership Boards.
The electronic vote takes place in early Fall for appointment beginning in January of the following year.

Consistent with the Association's travel and expense guidelines, reasonable and appropriate travel and hotel expenses for the Officers and Board Members in connection with the meetings will be covered.
