New Mexico Caps Insulin Co-Pays

New Mexico Caps Insulin Co-Pays

March 09, 2020

On March 4, New Mexico became the third state in the nation to enact a co-pay cap on the life-saving medication. The legislation (HB 292) will cap monthly co-pays at $25—the lowest dollar amount for a co-pay cap to date! Larisa Caffery, an ADA camper and youth advocate testified in front of legislators and said, “Diabetes supplies already cost a lot, so to bring down the cost of the most important thing—insulin, this will help so many people and can start a movement everywhere.” We at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) applaud Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and bill sponsors Senator Daniel A. Ivey-Soto and Representative Micaela Lara Cadena for their leadership in passing this legislation that will provide relief to some living with diabetes in New Mexico.
