Commercial Driver's Licenses

Commercial drivers with diabetes have to follow certain rules in order to keep driving with diabetes. Learn more about these rules and the American Diabetes Association's role in making sure they are fair and do not discriminate against people with diabetes.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) allows individuals with insulin-treated diabetes to operate commercial motor vehicles. Medical certification is required. For more information on the FMCSA rule, read our FAQ below.
